The channel '2M Maroc' reported, citing trade union sources, that a group of foreign shops has dismissed Moroccan workers after they founded a union office and joined the Trade Union Confederation of Labor (CDT). The company fired 18 drivers who were responsible for transporting goods from a depot in the city of Mohammadia to other cities where the company is active.
For its part, the regional office of the CDT in the city of Mohammadia addressed a letter to the regional director of labor calling on him to intervene on behalf of the drivers, explaining that this dismissal represents a serious violation of the constitutional right to union membership.
The dismissed workers, for their part, said they were surprised by the decision and explained that the creation of the union office was intended to protect the drivers of the company who worked for long hours without any compensation or any real professional protection while they were doing their work during long journeys.
The company has been operating in Morocco since 2009 and it currently runs about 470 stores in different cities of the country.
