Postal workers have started a series of protests since last Friday following the failure of negotiations with the authorities on several professional and social demands.
The General Post Federation affirmed that this strike comes in protest over the General Post Administration’s not meeting worker demands. Those demands include mainly job promotions, grants, loans and applying good governance practices.
The federation pointed out that the postal sector suffers from several problems related to bad governance, especially in relation to the recruitment of workers and the assigning of administrative cars to officials due to misconduct, which reflected negatively on the financial condition of the institution.
In the same context, the postal sector's agents and employees have demanded a resolution to the situation facing guards and janitors, the allocation of 2% of the wage for all kinds of promotions in accordance with the agreement of February 16, 2018, and the publication of the results of exams, which has been suspended since December 21, 2018.
The workers’ demands also include completing the negotiations tied to the October 22, 2018 agreement between the union and the government before the end of July 2019. Those negotiations relate to the sustainability of public institutions and the increase in wages for the public sector.
