Jordan: The kingdom has 3,000 begging children

The Jordanian Women Solidarity Institute, “Solidarity” has drawn attention to the US State Department’s 2019 human trafficking report which indicates that some Jordanian and Syrian girls are forced to leave their schools to work as housekeepers; some of these girls are trafficked.

The report found that it is likely children working in the service sector, agriculture, maintenance workshops, as street vendors and beggars are victims of forced labor.

In Jordan, the number of begging children is estimated at about 3,000, the majority of whom are exposed to major threats.

In a report, the association explained that the Human Rights Council in Geneva made 226 recommendations to Jordan after discussing the kingdom's 3rd periodic report on human rights from November 08th, 2018. Jordan accepted 149 recommendations and rejected 77 others (of which it was informed); 66% of the recommendations from 95 countries around the world were accepted. Five Arab countries presented recommendations on women and girls in Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Algeria, and Tunisia.
