The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions Deputy Secretary-General Abdul Qader Al-Shehabi revealed that the aluminium sector is under financial pressure, especially due to the Alba Company and because of the current economic situation. He called for collective bargaining, with the presence of the three parties of production.
Al-Shehabi pointed out during the opening of a workshop on the labour inspection, which was organized by the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions on July 24 and 25 that the decline in marketing, in the sector is due to the pressure of some companies’ administrations on workers, either through layoffs, the modification in the working hours or the deterioration of the health and safety standards.
Al-Shehabi recommended the trade unionists to study convention (155) on the health and safety (in order to protect the employees and have further negotiations in this regard, stressing that any violation of the health and safety standards would negatively affect investment and marketing in the companies.
