Palestinian refugees continue their protest for the eighth day in a row in the Sidon refugee camp of Ain el-Hilweh by closing the entrances into the camp and imposing a ban on entry of food protesting against Lebanon's labour ministry cracking down on businesses employing foreign workers without a permit.
The local media affirmed, quoting some Palestinian sources, that the four main entrances have been closed with flaming rubber tires and iron barriers, as well as the secondary roads, in a new escalatory step, following the Minister, Abu Suleiman’s, insistence on the implementation of the work permit.
A committee of the Palestinian Joint Labour Organization had held a joint meeting with the youth of Ain el-Hilweh camp, during which they stressed that the strike will continues, until the retreat of the Ministry of Labour’s unjust and unfair decision against the Palestinian people.
On June 06th , the Lebanese Ministry of Labour launched a plan to combat illegal workers in the country as a way to reduce the high rate of local unemployment..
This plan, which was initiated by the ministry's teams in order to verify the non-Lebanese workers' obtention of work permits, in their workplaces, has generated widespread political and popular reactions in Lebanon, especially among the Palestinian refugees.
The latter considered that the implementation of this plan is a direct violation of their livelihood, after the issuing of legal and financial control records against their employers, under the slogan " The Combating of the illegal Foreign Workers".
