Last Saturday morning, the Egyptian security forces stormed the Middle Egypt Company for Spinning and Textile headquarters, where hundreds of workers protested, as well as the arrest of four workers from their homes on charges of the gathering and disrupting of work.
Since July 15, 2019, the company’s workers have been organizing an open strike.
Some media sources revealed that Amrou Farouk Saad, Imad Mansour, Islam Yahya and Ayman Osman were referred to the prosecution.
In fact, the company’s workers in al-Minya are asking for the raise in the remuneration of the cost of living from 10 pounds to 200 pounds, as well as the social allowance, which is estimated at 200 pounds on the basic wage, in addition to the raise in the annual profits from 5 months to 6 months and a half, and the raise in the incentive of regularity from 225 pounds to 300 pounds.
Moreover, they are asking for the non-renewal of the retirees’ pensions, and the maintenance of the factory. They also stress the need for the administration’s commitment to provide the workers’ leaves, on time, in addition to the payment of the administrative incentive (75 pounds) to all workers, as well as the need to buy raw materials and cotton to ensure production and work without interruptions.
