During the founding congress of the Egyptian Democratic Labour Congress, the chairman Saad Chaaben, asked for the amendment of the articles on the right to join and to quit a union in the Trade Union Organization law number 213 of 2017 and the article on the right to form unions.
Chaaben said that it’s unfair to make a unionist give-up the fellowship fund as soon as he withdraws from the union committee, which discourage many unionists from resigning from their committees; he added that the conjunction “or” should be added to the article on forming unions to make it “unions can be formed by 7 general unions or 150 000 members”.
Chaaben announced a meeting with the Minister of Workforce on Saturday, to register some unions’ committees, and ongoing discussions with parliamentarian about the amendments.
