The two-month work ban starts on Monday July 1 in Bahrain as promulgated by Edict 3/2013. The regulation bans direct sun-exposed labor activities between midday and 4 pm effective until August 31.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Development sent correspondences to companies and enterprises that have sun-exposed worksites asking them to comply with the edict for both human and economic reasons. The ban aims at protecting workers from insolation and other summer diseases and to prevent work accidents during that very hot and humid season.
The Ministry also stressed all companies concerned to provide the required protective tools to prevent the onset of summer-related ailments as well as potential occupational injuries by rescheduling working hours to ensure the progress of projects all over the Kingdom’s regions.
The Edict, which is implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, stipulates that: “Any party violating this Edict shall be sanctioned according to the sanctions listed by the Article (192) of the Labor Law for the Private Sector Promulgated by Law No.(36) of 2012”.
The sanctions provided by Article (192) stipulates that: “Any party violating any of the provisions of Title XV of this Law or the decisions issued in implementation thereof shall be sanctioned by imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months and by a fine not less than five hundred Dinars and not more than one thousand Dinars, or by any of the two sanctions”; the sanctions shall be doubled in case of repetition.
