Abdelkader Zaier, General Secretary of the Democratic Confederation of Labor, demanded the resignation of Saadeddin El Osmani’s government, because of its incapacity to come up with an effective plan to address the main country’s problems whether in the health, education or job sectors, according to him.
Zaier called for this resignation on Sunday, while celebrating the anniversary of the “Bread riots” that happened in Morocco on 20 June 1981. The commemoration took place near the Martyrs’ Cemetery, in Casablanca and was attended by thousands of unionists.
Zaier warned in one of the many speeches given on Sunday: “nowadays, we are witnessing the same conditions that led to the riots back in 1981” and called for a comprehensive social dialogue to fulfill democracy and social justice.
The commemoration offered a various program; presents were given to the families of the riots’ martyrs and people marched to the cemetery where the martyrs are buried.
On 20 June 1981, riots took place in Casablanca, after the Democratic Confederation of Labor organized a strike to denounce the prices’ increases in that time.
