The world celebrated the World Refugee Day, yesterday, which was an opportunity to discuss the refugees’ situation in many regions of the world.
In fact, the number of refugees in the world rose in 2018 to more than 70 million people, according to a new report from the United Nations, while others considered that this number is less than the real people, who left their homes.
In this regard, Action Group for Palestinians of Syria (AGPS) issued a press statement, yesterday, in which it referred to the violations against the Palestinian refugees in Syria, which infringe the international conventions and standards, as well as the refugee rights’ conventions.
AGPS affirmed in its statement: "The Syrian crisis led to the dismantling of the Palestinian refugee community in Syria, where most of the camps and Palestinian gatherings have been displaced. In fact, the number of the internally displaced people are about 260 thousand Palestinian refugees, who suffer from extreme poverty.” Adding that “The number of refugees to the neighbouring countries and the European Union reached tens of thousands."
The statement highlighted that 3 897 Palestinian refugees were killed by the war in Syria, either by shelling, sniping, bombings, death under torture or by irregular migration, in addition to 2 084 , who have been forcibly disappeared, including men, women and children, who are held inside the Syrian prisons.
In its statement, the group recommended working on alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian refugees and neutralizing the Palestinian camps from the conflict in Syria. It also stressed the need to settle the situation of the detainees and the disappeared, the rehabilitation of the infrastructure in the destroyed camps, and the need to call UNRWA in order to provide its services to the Palestinians outside and inside Syria.
