Tunisia / Kairouan governorate: Corruption in the cement factory, SOTACIB, and a strike of 10 days

Al-Chaab newspaper reported that the workers of the SOTACIB Cement factory in Kairouan province will enter in a 10-day strike starting on the 2nd of next month, in protest against the violation of the union right and the dismissal of two trade unionists by the director, after a strike launched by the factory workers earlier.

On June 14th, the workers held a first protest movement near the Spanish embassy in Tunis, condemning the hostile practices of the Director General towards workers and trade unionists.

The newspaper pointed out that the workers asked for the respect for the trade union right, collective bargaining, as well as the respect for agreements, the maintain of gains, regarding the grant of production and to abide by the rules of occupational safety and health conditions, and the conclusion of negotiations on the institution's agreement at both the financial and regulatory levels.

The workers also emphasize the need to implement Article70 of the Foundation Agreement and not to recruit or fill vacancies with sub-contractors, the respect and implementations of Articles 101 and 122 of the Convention of the institution, in addition to the respect of the organizational structure of the company and the career hierarchy.
