An economic study by international experts entitled "The Impact of the War on Development in Yemen" revealed that the bombs planted by the Houthi militia in the Tihama valley caused a 38% decline in the cultivated areas, last year, and thousands of people lost their livelihoods.
The study confirmed that the Houthi militia has transformed the Tihama plains and valleys, called "Yemen's food basket," from agricultural fields to mine and death fields that does not cease to kill the innocent inhabitants of the Tihama plain.
According to Marebpress website, the study showed that the farmers' revenues in the Tihama area fell by about 42 percent from the pre-war rates. In fact, this war was launched by the Houthi militia, who planted bombs all over the Tihama plain in the western part of Yemen along the Red Sea coastal strip from Bab Al-Mandab to another border with the Saudi Arabia.
The study pointed out that the exposure of the crops and fields to the bombing and the direct attack by the Houthi militia forced the farmers to abandon the land and the agricultural workers, in addition to the lack of fuel and the increase in the cost of production and transportation, caused by the significant decline of the agricultural production in the Tihama and the Yemeni areas.
The Houthi militia impose a severe siege on the Tihama population in the province of Hodeida, which lead to a widespread poverty, hunger and disease. Famine has been reported in many areas of Hodeida, as well as the increase in the malnutrition among children.
The study attributed the decline of the agricultural investments that increase production capacity to the spread of bombs and the displacement, injury and killing of workers, as well as the increase in the prices of the basic materials such as seeds and fertilizers.
The economists considered the transformation of the agricultural areas in the Tihama plain to minefields as a "major economic disaster" not only because of the decline in production and agricultural areas in the past years, but also because of the freezing of the agricultural lands for decades, as they become very dangerous and needs years and huge funding to dismantle them.
