Philipp Schultz, a German journalist at the DW Media Center, highlighted the suffering and the tragedy of the African migrants in transit countries and in the ‘European Paradise. He published a new book entitled "Human Trafficking: The Immigration’s Business and Modern Slavery “on the phenomenon of human trafficking from Africa to Europe, as it has become a new sector of industry by itself.
Schultz concluded that this industry has evolved, during the recent years. Moreover, it has been supported by the European investment in border controls, in addition to the exploitative trade relations between European companies and corrupt African elites, as well as the Europeans’ complicity with the oppressive regimes in the African continent.
He expressed in press statements that there are terrible abuses in the desert, in the detention centres, southern Libyan. There are many private prisons run by smuggling groups, where the author met migrants, who were held there, with burns and deep wounds.
Many women were raped, sexually abused and offered to be auctioned in one of these private prisons in southern Libya, ending up with prostitution, in Libya and Europe.
After arriving to Europe, these women are forced into prostitution under a “slavery" contract whereby women must earn 40 000 euros of their work in prostitution, in order to obtain their freedom.
Philipp Schultz confirmed that Europe has contributed to this situation in several ways, including the unfair trade agreements with African countries and the support for European farmers, which has contributed to the further impoverishment of their African counterparts. In addition, the European companies are dealing with the corrupt elites to exploit Africa's rich resources.
Besides, Europe is also a hypocrite regarding the immigration issue; as on the one hand, it welcomes and affirms the right to asylum, and on the other hand it is doing its best to prevent the migrants from reaching the high-tech infrastructure.
It is noteworthy that the African elites must take responsibility for creating more opportunities for their citizens. It must also cooperate in the recovery of its citizens, in light of the total absence of the European asylum system.
