Egypt: The decision of Eid al-Fitr holidays was taken according to a non-existing law

The media sources revealed that the Egypt’s Trade Union Federation fell into a serious mistake, when it announced the decision No. 42 of 2019 on Eid al-Fitr holidays.

The decision stipulated that "according to the Labour Law No. 12 of 2003 and the Trade Unions’ Law No. 35 of 1976 and its amendments, the employees are granted a leave from Sunday to Thursday."

However, the union's decision came in accordance with a law that does not exist anymore. In fact, the labour union law No. 35 was abrogated two years ago, after the issuance of Law No. 213 of 2018 on trade union organizations.

The local media highlighted that it was surprising that the President of the General Federation, the Secretary-General, and several labour leaderships in the Federation's Board of Directors participated in the inauguration of the new law, and yet be part in such a serious mistake.
