Bahrain: Voluntary retirement will be available for 15 government institutions

Th MP, Ahmed Al-Ansari, a member of the parliamentary services’ committee, revealed the government’s intention to implement the voluntary retirement program, in the official institutions that were not covered yet by the program. In his statement to ”Al-Ayam” website, he expressed that the Minister of Finance informed the MPs, during the last meeting of the committee, that there are attempts to re-open the voluntary retirement program to 15 government institutions, through the program's funding from the Unemployment Insurance Fund.

The prominent government bodies that will benefit from the new voluntary retirement program, according to Al-Ansari, are the Shura Council, the Royal Charity Organization, the Constitutional Court and other bodies that do not follow the civil service regulations. This program is expected to be implemented after the amendment of the unemployment insurance law.

Al-Ansari said that the deduction of 230 million dinars from the account of the unemployment insurance to fund the voluntary retirement program will occur only once.

The MP confirmed that the a fund will cover the optional retirement funding in just 3 years, noting that the annual budget surplus from the unemployment fund amounts to 80 million dinars.

 

The minimum and maximum limits for the compensation and unemployment allowance increased as follows:

– The compensation of the insured unemployed by raising the minimum limit from (150) to (200) JD, and raising the maximum from (500) to 1000 dinars, while the job seekers’ allowance amounted to (200) dinars for those with university qualifications (instead of 150 dinars), and 150 dinars for the others (instead of 120 dinars).

– The extending of the maximum periods for the payment of the compensation and the unemployment compensation by 9 months instead of 6 months, during each 24 consecutive months; and the period of payment of the first job seekers’ for a period of 9 months instead of 6 months, for a period of 12 consecutive months.
