The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (Mada) condemned the massive campaign carried out by Facebook to remove dozens of personal Palestinian journalists and activists pages, over the past few days, considering that this is a serious violation of the media freedoms. , as the owners have not received any warnings or explanations to justify such a move.
According to the investigations of the Mada center researchers, the campaign carried out by the management of Facebook on Thursday night and Friday morning (23 and 24 May 2019) affected at least 69 pages, including 58 pages of journalists, in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
According to the Mada researchers, all of those whose personal pages have been removed received the same notice from Facebook: "Hello, thank you for your response. We will ask you to send us something from our ID list to confirm your name." However, after sending their identities, they got the same response that an unknown error occurred.
The closures, which were carried out without prior warning or explanation, emanated from the Israeli government agreement with Facebook about what it considers "incitement" against it, its policies and army.
