The civil society activists in the city of Ghardaia called on the security and judicial authorities to conduct professional, deep and serious investigations, in order to uncover the cause behind the death of the activist and human rights activist, Kamal Eddin Fakhar, who died on Tuesday after a two-month hunger strike in mysterious and suspicious circumstances.
The lawyer, Saleh Dabouz, that Fakhar’s situation worsened after his entry into a hunger strike, in protest against his imprisonment, explaining that he was transferred just before his death to the Blida hospital, in a state of fainting, after his suffering in the prison’s hospital.
Fakhar was one of the prominent leaders and figures in the region of Ghardaia, calls for the need for a political reform in the country. He was a doctor and was dismissed from work because of his positions.
He joined the Algerian League for the Defence of Human Rights and was a leader of the Socialist Forces Party. He was also arrested and imprisoned several times.
The lawyer, Saleh Dabouz, confirmed that Fakhar was arrested on March 31st, following the prosecution’s order because of a statement he gave, where he condemned the local authorities’ policy, especially the judiciary. He pointed out to the angry protests that erupted in the Amazigh areas where he belongs and condemned the way the authorities dealt with them.
On the other hand, the trade unionist Al-Haj Ibrahim Auf, who shared the same cell with Fakhar, before his death, is still under arrest.
In this regard, the human rights sources revealed that the authorities issued a decision to withdraw the communication license granted by the Attorney General to Al-Haj Ibrahim Auf’s lawyer, which allows the visit of Auf, who is detained in a room of Ghardaia Hospital, after the Ghardaia prosecution’s pressure by an official in the Ministry of Justice.
