The Spanish website, "la mar de onuba" revealed shocking data about the scandal that has already created a lot of controversy in Spain, where three Moroccan women filed a new complaint to the Spanish judiciary, where they complained about the violation of the farm owners of the legal requirements stipulated in the collective agreement. In fact, their passports have been confiscated, they did not get their wages on time, and their working hours were illegally doubled.
The agricultural female workers work for six and a half hours per day, with half an hour of rest during normal days, for 40 euros per day, the equivalent of about 3 900 euros in three months. However, some farm owners deprived women of working breaks in Ramadan, in addition to their forcing to break their fasting and drink water, in order to complete the work, because of the extreme fatigue they are subjected to.
The complainants, according to AUSAJ, an association that supports people in the Justice Ministry institutions, said that they "work for more than 12 hours a day, and that the ‘iftar’ is after sunset."
The three workers confirmed that "one of them had a rash that must be treated immediately because of the lack of the hygiene conditions, as more than 18 people live in one house, which they share with men. Moreover, they took showers with cold water, as well as the lack of medical centres." They highlighted that "they are subjected to sexual harassment and forced prostitution …".
The abovementioned complaint revealed that there were legal violations at "las posadillas" farm in the province of "Huelva", one of the largest companies engaged in the red fruit harvest, where the Moroccan female workers work, even during their sickness, without receiving any medical treatment.
On the other hand, the Spanish news website tried to contact the abovementioned company, to inquire about the allegations made by the three women, however, they refused to give any data regarding the subject and refused also the welcoming of journalists in the farm.
