Illegal migrants protest at Paris’ airport against deportations

Hundreds of irregular migrants gathered at the Charles de Gaulle airport (terminal 2F and terminal 2G), north of the French capital, in a protest movement against deportations.

A live video was posted in the “Collectif La Chapelle Debout” Facebook page, which is an independent group defending the exiles and immigrants’ rights. Both men and women wore black suits (calling themselves the "black vests"), supported by members of “La Chapelle Debout” group (this name is derived from onne of Paris' neighbourhoods, where irregular migrants gather). Many of them were standing at the electric stairs, while others gathered at the airport lounges, on Sunday morning (19 May).

According to “France 24” (the French Tv channel), the protesters came from 40 shelters from Île-de-France. They considered that the protest’s site was symbolic, as many illegal migrants in France are either flown home or deported to other European countries, from Charles de Gaulle airport. (Following Dublin’s Regulation, which stipulates that no immigrant is entitled to submit a residence application other than in the first European country, where he/she had registered his/her fingerprints).

The protesters clashed with the CRS and then entered had a dialogue with members of the security forces, who were closely controlling the situation, calling for the settlement of all the irregular migrants, the facilitating of their families’ arrival and their non-deportation.

It is noteworthy that the number of illegal migrants’ deportations increased by 14 percent in 2017, as 14 859 people were deported, and it recorded a high rate, last year, which amounted to 20%.
