Bahrain: A clear discrepancy in the Bahrainization of jobs’ rates

The head of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee announced the appointment of 73 temporary Bahraini employees. He pointed out that there is a clear discrepancy in the rates provided to the committee regarding the Bahrainization of jobs, which differed from those of the General Authority for Social Insurance, the Ministry of Labour and Social Development and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority.

This was during the meeting of the committee on Wednesday morning, 15 May, with the presence of the Minister of Labour and Social Development and representatives of the General Authority for Social Insurance, to review the competent authorities’ non-Bahrainization of jobs in the public and private sectors.

With regard to the people with special needs, the head of the committee revealed that the percentage of the people with disabilities in the public jobs amounted to 2% and that there were 92 unemployed people with disabilities in the Ministry of Labour.

Regarding the expelled workers, 400 cases were resolved with employers and social security, and were compensated according to the nature of their jobs. The government paid the difference, while 5 cases remained to be consulted.

At the level of unemployed university graduates, the head of the committee revealed the return of the project for the support of the unemployed university graduates, in cooperation with Tamkeen, for three years with the government support ranging from 30-50-70%.

On the other hand, the head of the committee confirmed the return of the registration of 2600 unemployed under the Ministry of Labour after the visit of the committee to the Ministry of Labour, under government directives to review the cases that were excluded from the system of insurance. In fact, 3170 people were recruited since the start of the National Employment Project, while the unemployment rate rose to 9600 unemployed at the beginning of the national employment project, reaching 10275 unemployed, with 2900 vacancies in the Ministry of Labour.
