On Thursday, May 02, the Court of First Instance in Al Hoceima sentenced a three-year prison and a fine of 500 dirhams for the Rif Movement (Hirak Rif) activist, Rachid Chabni, because of his Facebook posts.
The prosecution accused the activist of such charges as: "The violation of the judicial decisions, which affects the judiciary and its independence", "the insulting of the legally organized bodies", "incitement to disobedience", "incitement against the territorial unity of the kingdom" and "the participation in the organization of an unauthorized protest”.
Rachid Chabni was arrested immediately after his return from the protest march held last month in Rabat, condemning the verdicts issued by the Casablanca appeals court against Nasser Al-Zafzafi and his other fellows, asking for their release.
