The Ministry of Labour explained that the Prime Minister's announcement to reduce the working hours during the month of Ramadan does not include the private sector.
According to the local media, quoting sources from the Ministry of Labour, the Jordanian Labour Law No. 8 of 1996 and its amendments did not include any regulations regarding the work’s time, during the holy month of Ramadan, without exceptions, during the whole month.
The sources indicated that the work’s schedule for Ramadan was left to the employers, who are supposed to submit a set of procedures, that have to be approved by the ministry, or to follow the procedures that have already been settled by the employers, in previous years.
The Prime Minister, Dr. Omar Al-Razzaz, decided to set the official working hours during the holy month of Ramadan from 9 am to 2 pm.
However, this decision excluded the employees, whose official work requires other administrative procedures, that are taken by their employers.
