The workers of the National Company for Industry and Mines, “SNIM", launched a 24-hour strike, last Tuesday in the company's institutions in Nouadhibou and Wazuirat, north of Mauritania.
The local media confirmed that the work at the company's production sites has almost stopped because of the strike.
The mining company employed 45 workers with intermediary companies and 30 retired contractors to run the mining, sites during the period of strike.
The workers' representatives revealed that the manager of SNIM confirmed during a negotiating session that the company cannot currently grant workers allowances and that its current priority is to provide mining mechanisms and a handling institution. If this goal is achieved, the production increases, the workers will be given privileges, as much as their sacrifices, which was rejected by the workers' representatives.
The negotiations with the workers and the company on meeting the workers' demands’ petition ended last week without reaching a solution to meet their demands, which led to the workers’ escalation that started with the stop of working for half an hour at all the extraction sites, and some other departments.
