The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions issued a statement on the occasion of the International Workers' Day, stressing that the federation considers the issue of Bahrainization and decent work as two interdependent and non-conflicting elements. The increase in Bahrainization and the settlement of higher positions, in accordance with competence and professional standards will necessarily provide decent work for everyone.
The statement pointed to the importance of the tripartite councils as platforms for social dialogue, considering that the unilateral decision taken by the government side without the genuine consultation with the parties of production indicates that this tripartite partnership is not respected.
The federation expressed its absolute rejection of any other use of the surplus insurance funds rather than for unemployment purposes, which are determined in the provisions of the decree of the Insurance Act against unemployment, considering that this decision is a violation of the unemployed rights and the fund’s savings, which must continue to help the unemployed cope with the burdens of life.
The statement pointed out to the amendments of the Labour Law and the expansion of the prohibition of discrimination, stressing that if a committee for discrimination complaints is not established with the continuation of discrimination between the government and private sectors’ workers, as the former are deprived of the right to organize, these amendments will never take place.
The statement praised the workers and the people of Palestine, who are fighting on both fronts of national rights and labour and economic rights, in a strangled economy, in which the rate of unemployment under occupation reached the highest level in the world, stressing its rejection of normalization and its refusal to accept any relationship with the usurper. It also condemned the attempts of an Israeli delegation to participate in the Bahrain Entrepreneurs' Conference.
