The National Office of the Moroccan Journalists Syndicate, affiliated with the Moroccan Workers’ Union and the National Federation of Press, Information and Communication, held a meeting on Saturday (the 28th of April) at the union’s central office, in Casablanca, in cooperation with Hameed Saadi and Thuraya Sawaf, the members of the National Press Council.
The meeting took place to discuss a number of issues related to the professional journalist's card and to the obtaining of a permit from the Public Prosecution to issue an electronic newspaper.
The decree on the conditions of granting the professional journalists’ card was more unfair than the Press and Publication Law and came to devote the dominance of the big enterprises and wealthy people, in the field of journalism. In fact, it excluded the regional and local press, which do not benefit from any support, and which their owners struggle to contribute to the development of the areas they belong to.
In fact, their demand to join the National Social Security Fund and to provide an evidence of the deducted amounts is considered as impossible conditions. Its aim is to exclude a large group of professionals and deprive them of their professional journalists’ card. Moreover, the required documents to obtain the card from the Public Prosecution have been also discussed.
A review of the terms of access was called for, through the enactment of an electronic press law, as well as the continuation to mobilize and face all the exclusionist and elite laws and decrees.
