On Sunday, 31 March 2019, the Shams FM radio employees enter in their fifth day of strike at the headquarters of the institution against the procrastination in the implementation of previous agreements.
The workers are asking Al-Karama Holding Company to adhere to the previous agreements and to provide the syndicate's party with the work plan before the privatization of the institution, in respect of the standards of transparency, during the process of privatization. Moreover, they are asking for the acceleration in the payment of the workers’ financial dues, which is the fourth instalment from the grant of production for 2018 and the food tickets for January and February, as well as the social coverage and the activation of the wage increase agreement in the private sector.
The workers also stress that a radical solution must be found regarding the vehicles transporting journalists and employees, as they become very dangerous and threaten the workers’ safety.
It is noteworthy that the workers continue their work in a normal way, using red badges until their demands are met. In fact, the workers accuse the radio’s administration of the institution, the Karama Holding company, the Ministry of Finance, and the government for being responsible of the radio’s current situation. They emphasise that they are ready to escalate and fight for their rights and for the sustainability of the institution through all the legitimate forms of struggle.
It is noteworthy that this strike was called by the main union of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and the branch of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists.
