Iraq: Teachers in private schools ask for equity

Thousands of teachers work in the education sector, including private schools, with annual contracts and a monthly salary of 250 thousand dinars ($ 210).

Such contracts oblige the teachers to terminate the legal period of the contract, which is the school year, and there are no leaves or holidays for the contracted teachers.

The teachers ask whether it is the teachers' union or the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs which stands for the defence of their rights, under the Iraqi Labour Law of 2015, which set the wage of the workers by (350) thousand dinars ($ 300), in addition to other rights such as transport allowances and health insurance, while this class of contractual teachers in private schools, is vulnerable to exploitation and dismissal with or without reason.
