Thousands of Algerians gathered at the central post office in the heart of Algiers on Friday, including the people, who spent the night there, to participate in the sixth Friday of the movement to ask for political change, in rejection of Bouteflika’s ruling and those around him in power.
Yesterday's protests were special, following the statements of Ahmed Kayed Saleh group which call for the activation of Article 102, which regulates the state of vacancy for the President of the Republic post.
What was remarkable about yesterday's demonstrations is the strong presence of the disabled army in the central post office.
The Algerian radio said on Thursday that the Constitutional Council did not held any meetings so far to decide the fate of the president.
In the same context, the Trade Union Confederation of Productive Forces of Algeria declared a general strike on 7, 8 and 9 April 2019, in addition to a five-day strike, from 14 April 2019 to 18 April 2019.
The confederation said in its statement that it asked for the activation of Article 102 of the Constitution because of the inability of the president to voluntary resign from his post as President of the Republic. Thus, he has to follow the legal proceedings.
These legal proceedings are represented in the resignation of the President of the National Assembly and his replacement by a popular figure, the resignation of the President of the Constitutional Council for the non-meeting of the popular demands, his inability to protect the Constitution and inability to fulfil his constitutional duties of activating the articles and reviewing the constitutionality of the decrees and decisions.
The confederation called also for the formation of a national coalition government composed of national figures and competencies from the popular movement and with a popular historical credibility. Its functions would include the running of affairs, the preparation for the future presidential elections and the ensuring of objectivity, where its members are not allowed to participate as candidates. Moreover, it called for the formation of a national committee for the supervision of the presidential elections, in accordance with the constitution, composed of judges, lawyers and people from media, who participated in the popular movement.
