The Secretary General of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions, Hassan Al-Hilwaji, expressed his regret over the passing of the proposed amendments to the Pension Fund Law and their role to facilitate the infringement of the workers' funds instead of their protection. He said in a statement after passing the amendments in the House of Representatives, that the fund’s money belongs to all workers, and no one may infringe them without the consent of those who have been deprived of their livelihood.
Al-Hilwaji pointed out that the Legislative Council is supposed to protect the workers' money, represent their ambitions and listen to their demands, but the House of Representatives today let down the Bahrain workers by passing these amendments, despite the constitutional and legal suspicion on them, hoping that the other part of the legislative authority, the Shura Council, can deal with the rejection of this infringement to be more equitable than the deputies.
Al-Hilwaji stressed that the general federation is still determined to reject this infringement, and still believes that those who proposed the early retirement project must find sources of funding away from laying their hands on the fund. This money is for the support of the unemployed by the Bahraini workers. In fact, the workers have nothing to do with the funding of projects that have nothing to do with them.
