The Jordanian Labour Observatory revealed in a study that the unemployment rate among women in Jordan is very high, reaching 25.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018, compared to 16.9 percent for men in the fourth quarter of 2018.
The percentage of women participating in the Social Security Coverage was 27.9 percent at the end of 2017 of the total number of participants in the institution.
The observatory pointed out that the weak role of women in the Jordanian economic life is one of the main problems facing the national economy, which constitutes an additional pressure on the Jordanian economy and deprives the national economy of the use of the unexploited capabilities and abilities, especially that the proportion of female attendance in education in Jordan is higher than males and at different educational levels, and that the majority of the graduates in the various stages of education in Jordan are also females. It also increases dependency rates the in Jordanian society. In fact, "the economic participation" of all Jordanians during the fourth quarter of 2018 reached 24.4%. Every worker has to provide a livelihood for 4 other people, including himself/herself, which is one of the highest rates in the world, which increases the difficulties faced by the family economy.
