Morocco: The nurses and health technicians refuse to contract and escalate their protests

The Moroccan nurses and health workers movement announced a protest program in March, asking for their compensation for occupational hazards, the elimination of the job qualifications’ selector, and the creation of the National Commission for Nurses and Health Technicians in Morocco.

The movement also asked for the rights of the victims of Decree No. 535-17-2, the reviewing of the conditions of the unfair promotions and the integration of all the unemployed nurses into the public sector, without a contract.

Morocco's nurses and health technicians decided to launch a 24-hour national strike with the exception of emergency departments and rehabilitation units, accompanied by local vigils in front of the provincial headquarters, on Wednesday, March 13, and decided to launch a 24-hour national strike with the exception of the emergency and rehabilitation departments, accompanied by a national vigil in front of the Ministry of Health, on Thursday 21 March 2019.

The movement's branch in the Rabat-Sila-Kenitra region will organize a vigil in front of the Ministry of Health on Thursday 28 March 2019, with the exception of the emergency and rehabilitation departments, as well as the organization of a national march on April 16 from the Ministry of Health towards the Moroccan Parliament, on Tuesday and Wednesday March 16th.

They also announced that they would continue to comply with the nursing duties in accordance with the provisions of Decree 2.17.535, the Ministerial Decision 2150/18 and Publication 100/11 of the Minister Yasmina Baddou, as well as their continuation in wearing the red armband.

The Movement of Nurses and Health Technicians in Morocco reiterated its condemnation of what it called "the policy of indifference and procrastination taken by the ministry against the nurses and health technicians. Moreover, its indifference about the tension created among this sector, endangering the health of citizens.”
