Mirin Abbas, the Regional Director of the German foundation, Friedrich Ebert, praised the role played by Bahrain, over the last four years in enacting legislations that would help the domestic workers.
He said at a conference on domestic labour, organized by the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions, that the Friedrich Ebert company proposed three years ago a model contract for the three parties, the offices of bringing in foreign workers and domestic workers, and the employers.
The representative of the national organization stressed the need to enact legislations that would reduce the number of domestic workers and the enactment of strict legislations to protect them, meanwhile, enacting legislations to help the female housewives, including long unpaid leave for pregnant women at giving birth and providing many services to children and families with children to avoid dependence on domestic workers.
In fact, the number of domestic workers in Bahrain reaches 110 thousand domestic workers out of the total number of foreign workers in Bahrain, which reaches 600 thousand foreign workers.
