The General Federation of Iraqi Workers condemns the arbitrary measures taken against the employees of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals

The General Federation of Iraqi Workers revealed the Ministry of Industry and Minerals’ employees’ suffering from the infringement of their rights and interests due to the entering of these companies into fake sales, purchases, privatizations and investments that will lead them and the national economy to real disasters.

The General Federation considered that the companies’ administrations of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals have previously and currently carried out arbitrary measures against workers, who asked for their rights and defended their companies against privatizing and illegal investment. They stressed that these companies are productive and renewed their production lines.

In its statement, the federation confirmed that the administrations are holding accountable the activists working in the companies, through their referral to the investigation committees in a flagrant violation of the right of demonstration and strike stipulated in the provisions of the Iraqi constitution and the Labour Law, considering these measures as arbitrary, illegal and a threat to the employees.

The General Federation of Iraqi Workers warned these administrations against penalizing any of the employees of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals companies, considering this matter as a national public opinion case and asked for the responsible to be held accountable of any harm that could be done to the workers, announcing that any available legal means will be used in defence of the workers’ rights and the national economy.

It is noteworthy that the legal department of the General Company for Food Products has recently called on a number of active workers to investigate them, just because they used their right to defend the supreme national interest, which is to defend the rights of workers and to protect the factories and national companies, which are considered as the basis of the Iraqi national industry.
