The United Nations revealed reports on Friday that at least 50 migrants had been injured after organizing a protest that was suppressed in a detention center in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
The UN refugee agency said that the protest was "out of frustration and concern" as migrants had been held for months in very poor conditions.
It added in a statement that "There were reports that about 50 people were injured when the authorities sought to suppress the protest, two were seriously wounded and were taken to Abu Salim hospital".
The west coast of Libya is a major starting point in North Africa for migrants seeking to cross the Mediterranean towards Europe, fleeing mainly from poverty and wars in other parts of the continent.
