The labour law, international agreements, and troubled companies were the subject of the General Federation of Libyan Trade Unions’ last meeting

The Executive Office of the General Federation of Libyan Trade Unions held its meeting on 4 March in Benghazi under the chairmanship of, Nermin Al-Cherif to discuss the various suspended professional and social problems witnessed by a number of institutions.

The meeting dealt with several issues including the draft labour law, trade unions and international conventions ratified by the Libyan state, which were violated through decisions and laws passed by the Council of Representatives and the Council of Ministers, including the law to raise the retirement age and decision 399 on job classification.

On the other hand, the problems of troubled companies, such as transportation, plastics, textiles and others, have been discussed. Moreover, the meeting dealt with the problem of delaying the implementation of the law on the increase of teachers and the contribution and commissioning of public companies such as construction, public works, landing sites, etc. in the reconstruction of Benghazi and the maintenance of buildings, affected by war and terrorism.

Besides, the union’s work has been shared locally and internationally, during the last period, as well as, the publicization of the international unions that get the General Federation of Trade Unions membership.

In addition, members of the Executive Office discussed the support file of the General Conference for the future of Libya, in accordance with the objectives and principles adopted by the statement adopted by the sheikhs and wise men of Libya, the General Federation of Libyan Trade Unions, the General Union of Craftsmen, the network of civil society organizations and trade unions, including the teachers' union, which is preparing these days to celebrate the National Teacher's Day.

It is noteworthy that this meeting was attended by MP Intisar Shneib, along with the directors of the construction and public works companies, unions’ member and chairman of the general conference for the future of Libya.
