According to the Amnesty International Organization’s report: 12 000 companies violated the labor law in Qatar

The Amnesty International Organization’s report revealed the continuous violations in Qatar against the infrastructure construction workers for the preparations of the 2022 World Cup, which was denounced by the International Organizations, despite Qatar's repeated promises to defend the workers’ rights.

The Amnesty’s report, entitled "A Deep Look on Reality" about the foreign workers in Qatar, stated that Doha is taking risks by " dishonoring its promises to address the massive labor exploitation of thousands of foreign workers" before the beginning of the 2022 World Cup.

This report also added that "many workers are still suffering of the harsh working conditions," referring to the procrastination of Doha in improving their conditions.

Even though the report focuses on the situation of two million foreign workers in Qatar, rather than just the 30 000 workers, who are working in the infrastructure construction for the 2022 World Cup, Amnesty International believes that the International Federation of Association Football ” FIFA” is also "responsible" for the workers’ ill-treatment.

Amnesty called on Qatar to strengthen and implement the social laws, to raise the minimum wage so that the foreign workers are not burdened with debts. It also called for the halt of such practices by some employers, who confiscate their workers' passports, stressing the need to cancel the sponsorship program, which makes these workers under the mercy of their employers, indicating that 12 thousand companies violated the labor law.

The Amnesty International Organization also called for the protection for the 175 000 domestic workers who "who are almost forgotten".

The report stated that even though a 2014’s study warned that the number of deaths among migrant workers involved in such construction projects could reach more than 4 000 workers by 2022, it did not make things any better.

The report pointed out the deplorable conditions prevailing in the workplaces of the expatriate workers in Qatar and in the camps where they are forced to stay.
