The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions warns about a bad execution of the National Employment Program

The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (BFTU) warned of the lack of seriousness and transparency in the National Employment Program, as it was the case for the previous employment programs that have taken place in the country, which have come with no tangible results, even among the stakeholders themselves, as they didn’t spread the and publicize the employment and Bahrainization cases.

The federation expressed its hope that the official agencies would be transparent in dealing with the implementation of this program, not only at the level of the three production elements, but also at the level of society as a whole, regarding the social responsibility of all the Bahraini society factions towards the issues of Bahrainization and employment.

The General Federation expressed also its hope that the information on this program, the reasons for its implementation and its results would be public, within the scope of confidentiality as it was the case in the previous programs.

The federation stressed that a successful implementation of this program requires the close following of the Bahraini workers’ situation after their recruitment, the activation of the inspection mechanisms for the companies and institutions that employ Bahrainis as a mean to obtain more work permits for foreign workers. It also pointed out that there are some local institutions intending to terminate the workers’ contracts before their expiration (five years contract), which makes the Bahraini workforce under pressure and unable to arrange long-term plans.

The federation declared that it is fully prepared to participate in the implementation of this national program and assume its full responsibilities towards the Bahraini workforce, as a basic social partner in the economic process and endorse its role in the process of Bahrainization, recruitment and in addressing the problem of citizens suffering from delays which is a tiring problem for workers.
