Mass regional rallies in response to the call of the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CTD) in Morocco.

Last Sunday (24 February), a mass of Moroccan working-class people launched a protest with the participation of civil society groups, following the Central Union of the Democratic Confederation of Labour’s call to express their rejection and condemnation of the deterioration of their social situation. In fact, this situation resulted from the persistence of the government of Saad Al-Din Othmani in deepening the social disparities, and its intransigence in meeting the workers’ basic social demands.

The protesters raised slogans and banners condemning the violations of freedoms and the government's non-interference regarding the arbitrary arrests, layoff, and transfer of workers.

The protesters, wearing yellow outfits or yellow hats, condemned the Othmani government's implementation of the International Monetary Fund dictations and its refusal, according to the international financial institutions’ conditions to increase in wages, minimum wages in the private sector, pensions, implement the previous commitments, activate the provisions of the Labour Code and the institutionalizing of the tripartite social dialogue.

The protesters strongly condemned the unfairness of the government's refusal to recruit in the public sector the workers who were forced to contract.
