Today (20 February 2019), the workers of the public sector, public institutions and territorial groups are entering into a national strike called by the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CTD).
The Executive Office of the Central Trade Union called its trade union officials from all the regions and all the employees in the involved sectors to take part in the national strike to increase the mobilization for the success of the strike, today.
In a letter issued by Abdel Kader El Zayer, the general secretary of the Confederacy, and addressed to the members of the National Assembly, local confederations and national syndicates, last Monday, on the techniques of carrying out the national strike, the latter asked to call on the workers of the private sector to carry the yellow badge, stressing that the organization of this process is carried out under the supervision of local federations.
The public sector workers also called on the public institutions and territorial communities not to work and to join the local and regional confederations’ headquarters.
The Executive Office formed a shift team at the central headquarters in Casablanca to follow up the movement of the national strike in various cities and regions and monitor the facts and developments based on the reports of the local and regional confederations.
It is noteworthy that the CTD calls for a general wage increase by 600 dirhams ($ 62) for all employees, a reduction in the income tax, a tax exemption, an increase in the minimum wage by 10 per cent for all the private sector employees, and the standardization of the minimum wage for the industrial, agricultural and services sectors.
The confederation also asks for the return of all the expelled workers, the implementation of the provisions of the Labour Code, the respect for the trade union freedoms and the implementation of the commitments included in the April 26, 2011 agreement (particularly in the area of compensation for remote areas and the creation of a new class for all the concerned groups), as well as the integration of the workers, who were forced to contract in the basic system of the civil service and the returning of the retirement file to the social dialogue table.
