The Iraqi Teachers' Union and a number of its branches in the provinces announced their intention to carry out a general strike in the schools and institutes affiliated to the Ministry of Education, on Sunday and Monday, in protest against the government's non-implementation of the teachers’ previous demands. The union warned the Ministry of Education of accounting the schools’ administrations, teachers and supervisors, who intend to participate in the two-days strike.
The union asks for the acceleration in the appointment of the Minister of Education in objective way, away from the quota policy, the activation of the law to protect the teachers, especially the article on the abuse, as well as, the changing and printing of curricula and the combating of corruption in this file.
It also asks for addressing the problem of school buildings and the settlement of radical solutions to mud schools and schools which are about to fall, as well as, the reform of the educational process and the provision of adequate and decent housing for teachers.
