The Tunisian General Labour Union warns against the demonization of teachers and the incitement of people against them

The National Executive Office of the Tunisian General Labour Union warned that some of the parties are seeking to exploit the students’ parents’ care for their children against the Tunisian General Labour Union and the teachers, pointing to its understanding of the parents' concern over the school year and their right to protest.

Dozens of parents gathered in front of the headquarters of the union on Friday to express their fears of a blank year, asking for a solution to complete the school year. It is noticeable that there were groups belonging to parties known to be hostile to the Tunisian General Labour Union were also involved to exploit this gathering against the union and the General Federation of secondary education to create tension among the protestors.

In a statement, the Executive Office condemned the aggressive slogans raised against the trade unionists that call for their assaults and blamed the responsible authorities for not stopping incitement of this violence.

The Executive Office warned the parties and stressed that the union is ready to stand and confront them to protect the dignity of the trade unionists, considering that the government is primarily the responsible for the deterioration of the situation in education, calling on them to expedite the resolution of the crisis and stop using the emotions of the parents to evade the problem and to stop this game.

The Executive Office called on the trade unionists and all workers to defend their organization and to be aware of the conspiracies and be prepared to take their next step for struggle, which is the protest of 20 and 21 February 2019 of public service and sector.
