According to Ma’an News Agency, Shaher Saad, the secretary-general of the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions, denounced the non-adoption of the Labour Law by the Red Crescent, in dealing with workers, which is a clear violation of their rights.
Saad called on the administration of the association to declare its acceptance of the labour law as a basis and a starting point for regulating its relations with the workers, so that it will facilitate the future settlement of any problem, as long as the legal rule is implemented on all workers.
The members of the ambulance and emergency services of the Red Crescent launched a strike in front of the association’s building in the city of "Al-Bireh", with the participation of the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions.
This strike comes in the light of the association’s administration non-commitment to what was stated in the minutes of the agreement, which was agreed in November 2018, following a similar protest movement to ask for many labour rights.
The protesters call for the reviewing of the general pension law, the opening of the retirement agreement with the Palestinian Pension Authority, the informing of the union about the nature of the agreement, the calculation of the years of service and seniority, and the reduction of the working hours in shifts, according to the rules of the Red Crescent.
They also asked for an increase in the basic salary by 10% and the risk premium (50%) for the ambulance crews to suit the nature and seriousness of the work and the retroactive payment of transportation starting from January 1, 2013, along with other professional and social demands.
The union decided to carry out a partial strike on Friday, February 6, 2019, on the morning shift, for three hours, with the presence of all cadres in their positions, and decided to continue the partial escalation until reaching a comprehensive and open-ended protest, in case the administration ignored the workers’ demands.
