The teachers' union in Sanaa called on teachers to continue their strike in the capital and the other areas controlled by al-Houthi militias, until getting their rights and their salaries.
In a statement, the union blamed the Houthi militias for looting the teachers' salaries for more than two years and hindering the United Nations and the legitimate government in paying salaries, condemning the militias’ hindering of the disbursement the teachers’ grants given by UNICEF.
The union called also the human rights organizations to intervene and pressure the militias to quickly release the teacher's captain in the secretariat and the educational detainees, as it is a crime and a violation of the teachers’ rights under the teacher and educational professions’ law.
The union stressed that the teachers' salaries are their legal and legitimate right, which does not exempt the legitimate authority from assuming its responsibility and its duties, choosing the possible means and searching for the alternatives, asking the legitimacy to take care of the families of the martyrs and wounded teachers, as well as, the families of the educational detainees
For the second week, the teachers’ open strike continues in Sanaa, which is controlled by the Houthi militia, protesting against the continued suspension of the teachers' salaries for more than two and a half years.
