Dozens of drivers and bus transporters of private school students launched a strike, in front of the Ministry of Transport on Thursday to protest against the decision of the Cabinet to grant buses customs and tax exemption.
This decision also granted a 1-year-exemption for the rest of the buses, which has to be replaced by the latest model of 2018.
According to the Labour Observatory, citing a number of bus owners, this decision will lead to the dismissal of their services, because in this case, private schools will purchase their own buses, asking for an extension of the operating life of the buses, without specifying the type of buses in the cancellation book, so that bus-owners can buy old buses of good qualities and lower prices.
The Cabinet issued a decision, last week, to grant the schools’ private buses, which have to be replaced, or may be registered and licensed to strengthen the fleet, full tax and customs exemptions, starting from the date of the issuance of this decision until 31/12/2019.
