Yesterday, the social security workers launched a general strike in all the central, regional and local administrations, social security clinics, the social research and studies center and the machinery manufacturing centres.
The protesters gathered in the square of Mohammed Ali in the capital and in the headquarters of the regional federations where they raised slogans condemning the disregard of the authority to meet the workers’ pending demands and its non-adherence to the reached agreements, especially after the postponement of the strike for three times.
The General Federation of Social Security confirmed in a statement its rejection of the procrastination method taken by the government party in dealing with the workers’ demands, denouncing the violation of some of the basic articles.
The General Federation had reached an agreement with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the representatives of the social funds, last October at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Labour Inspection and Reconciliation, concerning the promotion of the publication of the articles of the social fund agents in the Official Gazette of Tunisia. The agreement stipulated also the commitment of the ministerial side to hold meetings with the administrations, to review the files submitted, the purification of the social climate, the implementation of the former agreements and, the appointment of a Director General of the Center for Research and Social Studies.
The two sides had also agreed on reviewing the classification of offices, regional and local centres, social security clinics and machinery manufacturing center, as well as, reviewing the government orders related to the organizational structures of the social security funds in a participatory manner between the General Federation and the general administrations of the funds, and the supervisory authority, especially with the emergence of some problems, following the administrative services and branches and the referral of draft orders of government to the president, before the end of last December and the settlement of the status of the agents, working in the administrative services.
