Beirut Declaration: The emphasis on the rejection of any resolution aimed at ending or reducing the role of "UNRWA"

The Beirut Declaration of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit affirmed the right of return and compensation for the Palestinian refugees and their descendants, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, especially the General Assembly Resolution 194 of 1948, as well as, the international mandate granted to the UNRWA, in accordance with the decision of its establishment, and the refusal of any decision that would end or reduce its role.

The statement called on the Arab leaders meeting at the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit at its fourth session in Beirut to help in providing the necessary resources and financial contributions to its budgets, in order to continue their role and responsibilities towards the Palestinian refugees inside and outside the camps in all its areas, including “Al-Quds”; until the settling of the Palestinian refugee’s issue, through a just and comprehensive manner, in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution 194 of 1948 and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

It also called on all the countries to abide by the international law and resolutions of the international legitimacy related to the legal status of the “Al-Quds”, and not to recognize it as the capital of the occupation, "Israel" , preventing the transfer of embassies to it, stressing the determination to take political and economic measures against any decision that would violate the legal status of “Al-Quds”.

The statement stressed the need to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people facing the increasing Israeli aggression and the subsequent destruction of the Palestinian economy and its infrastructure and the need for all the stakeholders to provide the necessary funding by involving the relevant organizations and entities to implement the mentioned projects in the Strategic Plan for Sectoral Development in East of “Al-Quds” (2018-2022), in the belief of the collective Arab and Islamic responsibility towards “Al-Quds” in order to preserve the Arab and Islamic identity of the Holy City of “Al-Quds”.

The Beirut Declaration stressed the need for all the international donors, specialized organizations and the Arab funds to unite in order to alleviate the suffering of the refugees and to provide the funding for the implementation of the development projects in the hosting Arab countries, that would support the national development plans and contribute to the reducing of the economic and social repercussions of this temporary hosting.
