Egypt / Shubra El Kheima: What is happening in the middle east paper company "Simo Paper"?

The workers of the middle east paper company "Simo Paper", a subsidiary of the holding company for Chemical Industries, one of the companies of the Ministry of Public Business Sector, which is located in the industrial zone "Shubra Al-Kheima", were able to stop the auction of the equipment’s company sale, which are sold for very low price, following the utilities’ company such as the Electricity Company and the petroleum trading service (Petrotrade) obtaining of a judicial ruling on the confinement of the company's equipment and its sale at the auction, in order to pay the debts.

Mamdouh Ramadan, the chairman of the union' committee, said that the company's workers were surprised last Saturday by the arrival of a court record accompanied by the police department to confine the company's equipment to start selling it publicly.

The workers resorted to the court in order to submit an urgent memorandum to the Minister of Business Sector, Hisham Tawfiq, and the head of the Holding Company for Chemical Industries.

The workers were against the auction and tried to prevent the sale of the company and its equipment, but due to the presence of police forces to execute the judgment, the auction happened, and when the workers knew about the sale of all the existing and expensive equipment at a cheap price of about 2 million pounds, they decided not to let the equipment quit the company, and succeeded in disrupting the exit of the equipment and the company’s materials.

On March 15, 2014, the Administrative Court of Justice ruled the company’s return. In fact, the company has currently about 350 workers, who are paid by the holding company for Chemical Industries.
