The United Nations International Labour Organization called on the world governments, on Wednesday to adhere to a set of key measures to face the challenges, which resulted from the unprecedented change in the labour markets around the world today.
The World Commission on the Future of Action provided ten key recommendations that included the encouraging of governments to ensure a comprehensive labour protection for the workers' basic rights, ensuring decent living for all, with the imposition of specific restrictions on the working hours and the provision of safe and healthy workplaces.
The ILO's Regional Director for the Arab States, Dr. Ruba Jaradat, highlighted the main recommendations made by the report, which revolve around three pillars: the first is the investment in people's capabilities, the second is the investment in the labour institutions, and the third is the investment in decent and sustainable work.
She said that: "The challenges facing the labour market in the Arab region are the same challenges facing the whole world. We know that the Arab world is witnessing many wars and conflicts, which exacerbated the already existing challenges of the labour market in the region. In fact, the most important challenges were unemployment, social justice and child labour".
The Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gay Ryder, expressed that the issues highlighted in the report were important, and that the ILO's task of bringing together governments, employers and workers from all over the world means that the international organization was fully prepared to act as a compass and guide to help open new horizons for the future generations in work ".
