The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) announced that yesterday’s general strike was a great success of 100% participation in the public sector companies and in the public , which reflected the legitimacy of the demand of hundreds of thousands of public servants for the right to get an equitable increase in their salaries.
Tens of thousands of employees gathered in the square of Mohammed Ali, the headquarters of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) where they raised slogans, asking for the departure of the government and denouncing the violation of national sovereignty.
In his speech, the Secretary General stressed the organization's insistence in gaining the rights of employees and defending the national companies that the government is seeking to abandon. He also condemned the blatant intervention of the International Monetary Fund, which manipulates the government like a ‘doll‘ in flagrant violation of the independence of the national sovereignty .
It is expected that the administrative board, which is the second decision authority in the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), will hold a meet tomorrow to take new escalation decisions after the strike of yesterday.
