According to the UNICEF, the death of 15 children, most of them infants, in a camp in Syria from cold

The United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) reported the death of 15 migrant children, mostly infants in Al-Rikban camp in the south-east of Syria, near the border with Jordan due to the severe cold and lack of health care.

The children, including 13 under the age of one year, died in the camp, which suffers from a severe shortage of humanitarian aid, and others during the arduous journey, after fleeing from the ISIS in the east of the country.

The UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa affirmed in a statement that the children's lives were increasingly threatened by the low temperatures and harsh living conditions in Al-Rikban.

In just one month, at least eight children died, most of them are under four months of age, the youngest is a one hour-new born baby, according to the same source.

Al-Rikban camp, where about 50 000 people live, is suffering from difficult humanitarian conditions, especially since 2016, after that Jordan closed its border with Syria, declaring the area as a "military zone."
